Betsy Layne is the top seed for the 2016 58th District Girls’ Basketball Tournament.


EASTERN – Betsy Layne is the Floyd County girls’ high school basketball frontrunner heading into the postseason. The Ladycats are the number one seed for the 2016 58th District Girls’ Basketball Tournament.

Allen Central High School is set to host this year’s district tournament, which will once again feature four Floyd County programs.

Top-seeded Betsy Layne compiled a 5-1 58th District record during the regular-season.

Defending champion Prestonsburg is the number two seed. The Lady Blackcats finished 4-2 in the 58th District.

South Floyd is seeded third. The Lady Raiders compiled a 3-3 58th District.

Allen Central is the fourth seed. The Lady Rebels finished 0-6 in district competition.

Prestonsburg beat Betsy Layne 44-41 in the 2015 58th District championship game.

South Floyd is seeded first in the 58th District Boys’ Basketball Tournament.

All games of the 58th District Girls’ Basketball Tournament will be played inside J.E. Campbell Arena.

The opening round schedule for the 2016 58th District Girls’ Basketball Tournament is as follows: Tuesday, Feb. 23 – Betsy Layne vs. Allen Central, 6 p.m.; Wednesday, Feb. 24 – Prestonsburg vs. South Floyd, 6 p.m.

The girls’ district championship game is set for 6 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 26.

Both the winner and runner-up from the 58th District will advance to the 15th Region Boys’ Basketball Tournament at the East Kentucky Expo Center in Pikeville.

ACHS will also host the 58th District Boys’ Basketball Tournament next week.
