Lady Knights edge Allen Central, 50-49

EASTERN – Behind a game-high 41 points from Lauren Wright, visiting Piarist School edged former 58th District/Floyd County Conference rival Allen Central 50-49 in a late-season girls’ high school basketball game at J.E. Campbell Arena on Thursday night.

With the win, Piarist School improved to 3-16.

Allen Central slipped to 2-19 with the loss.

Wright drained 10 field goals and three 3-pointers for the Lady Knights in the victory.

Piarist School, under the direction of veteran head coach Kevin Tackett, notched its second straight win. The Lady Knights defeated familiar foe Riverside Christian 61-53 in a home game on Saturday, Feb. 13.

Following Wright in the Piarist School scoring column, Katie Howard added six points.

Chipping in offensively, Taylor Eckle contributed two points and Lane Eckle scored on a free throw for the Lady Knights.

Hannah Combs led the Allen Central offensive effort with a team-high 15 points.

Accompanying Combs in double figures, Alexandria Samons added 12 points and a game-high 23 rebounds for the Lady Rebels.

Kacie Poston scored eight points, Kelsey Parsons chipped in seven points, Savannah Watkins netted four points and Star Sparkman contributed three points for Allen Central in the non-district setback.

Allen Central suffered its 10th straight loss.

Piarist School competes in the 59th District, along with East Ridge, Pikeville and Shelby Valley.
