BELFRY – Prestonsburg halted a five-game losing skid on the road, edging host Belfry 64-61 in a boys’ high school basketball regular-season finale on Friday night.
With the win, Prestonsburg improved to 7-21.
Belfry dropped to 11-16 with the loss.
Prestonsburg, under the guidance of head coach James DeRossett, outscored Belfry 26-18 in the fourth quarter to claim the win.
Dalton Frasure paced Prestonsburg with a double-double. Frasure, who is set to play football at Morehead State University, scored 19 points and pulled down a game-high 10 rebounds for the Blackcats.
Following Frasure in double figures for the Blackcats, Scott Stapleton scored 17 points
Wesley Hager, a first-year player for Prestonsburg, added 10 points.
Prestonsburg shot 45 percent (16-of-35) from the field. The Blackcats were 4-of-10 (40 percent) from 3-point range.
Prestonsburg shot 70 percent (28-of-40) from the free throw line.
Other scorers for the Blackcats in the win were Jordan Ray (six points), Drake Nunnery (four points), Austin Endicott (four points) and Hicks (four points).
Belfry shot 41 percent (25-of-61) from the field. The Pirates finished 7-of-25 (28 percent) from 3-point range.
Belfry shot 57.1 percent (4-of-7) from the free throw line.
Garrett Fannin led Belfry with a game-high 29 points. Following Fannin in the Belfry scoring column, Cole Bentley and Ryan Jessie scored eight points apiece for the Pirates.
Bentley led Belfry in rebounding, claiming seven caroms for the Pirates.
The loss stopped a three-game Belfry win streak.
