Bobcats dominate Jenkins, 75-36

BETSY LAYNE – Three Bobcats reached double figures in the scoring column as Betsy Layne beat visiting Jenkins 75-36 in a late-season boys’ high school basketball game at the Dome on Friday night.

With the win, Betsy Layne improved to 11-18.

Jenkins slipped to 1-28 with the loss.

Longtime foes, Betsy Layne and Jenkins hail from neighboring regions.

The Bobcats fared well both offensively and defensively throughout the non-district boys’ high school basketball matchup.

Betsy Layne shot 48.2 percent (27-of-56) from the field. The Bobcats finished 4-of-16 (25 percent) from 3-point range.

Betsy Layne shot 50 percent (17-of-34) from the free throw line.

Jakob Ariaz paced Betsy Layne with a double-double. scoring a game-high 17 points and grabbing a game-best 10 rebounds.

Joining Ariaz in double figures in the scoring column for the Bobcats, Kyle Watkins scored 16 points and Grant Osborn contributed 11 points.

Other scorers for Betsy Layne weer Quintin Adkins (eight points), Milton Mahan (seven points), Byron Hammond (six points), Morris Adkins (four points), Dustin Tackett (three points) and Frank Tackett (three points).

Defensively as a team, Betsy Layne recorded 20 steals/deflections and one block.

The Bobcats overcame 14 turnovers. Betsy Layne’s assist-to-turnover ratio was 22-14.

Familiar rivals, Betsy Layne and Jenkins met for the second time in less than one week. In a game played on Feb. 13, Betsy Layne beat Jenkins 79-56.
