Ladycats hold off Jenkins

BETSY LAYNE – Host Betsy Layne held on to beat Whitney Creech-led Jenkins 65-60 in a girls’ high school basketball regular-season finale at the Dome on Friday night.

With the win, Betsy Layne evened its record to 14-14.

Jenkins slipped to with the loss.

Betsy Layne shot 38.5 percent (25-of-65) from the field. The Lady Cats finished 5-for-17 (29.4 percent) from 3-point range.

Betsy Layne shot 40 percent (10-of-25) from the free throw line.

A balanced Betsy Layne scoring effort featured four players in double figures.

Emily Kidd led Betsy Layne with a double-double, scoring 18 points and pulling down a game-high 12 rebounds.

Equalling her teammates’ scoring total,, Megan Frazier added 18 points of her own for the Ladycats.

Joining Kidd and Frazier in double figures, Katie Tackett contributed 14 points and Destiny Compton provided 10 points for Betsy Layne in the hard-fought win.

Rounding out the Betsy Layne scoring, Summer Johnson and Alex Sisco added three points and two points, respectively.

As a team, Betsy Layne dished out 15 assists.

Taking care of the basketball, Betsy Layne committed only nine turnovers.

Jenkins shot 42.3 percent (22-of-52) from the field. The Lady Cavaliers finished 6-of-15 (40 percent) from 3-point range.

Jenkins shot 76.9 percent (10-of-13) from the free throw line.

Whitney Creech poured in a game-high 42 points and grabbed 11 rebounds for the Lady Cavaliers. Creech was the only Jenkins player to reach double figures in the scoring column. Narrowly missing double figures, Emilee Rose and Alexis Stambaugh scored nine points apiece for the Lady Cavaliers in the setback.
