PRESTONSBURG – Coming off an appearance in the KBA State Tournament Elite 8, the Adams Middle School B-Team rolled into the Floyd County Tournament looking for a championship. The young Blackcats played some of their best basketball of the season, winning all three tournament games in convincing fashion. Coach Doug Hopkins’ platoon system wore down Adams’ opponents and allowed the Blackcats to play pressure defense the full 84 feet of the court. The Adams B-Team captured a Floyd County Tournament title concluded the season 26-3.

Adams 34, Betsy Layne 21: Betsy Layne attempted to slow the game down and it worked for a while. Adams used a strong second quarter to hold a 20-10 lead at halftime and was able to outscore the Bobcats in both the third and fourth quarters. Jake Hyden scored 10 points to lead the Blackcats in the victory.
Adams 42, Stumbo 20: The Blackcats came out running and built a commanding halftime lead over John M. Stumbo in the semifinals of the Floyd County Tournament. Jaxson Watts led the Blackcats with 11 points in the victory. In all, nine different Blackcats cracked the scoring column.
Adams 42, Allen Central 18: The Blackcat press was in full force on championship night. The Blackcat platoon system was in full effect as Adams used a strong first quarter performance to set the tone. Sharp shooting guard Grant Justice hit four 3-pointers in the second quarter to help the lead grow to 27-8 at halftime.
Adams’ roster includes Zack Thompson, Jaxson Watts, Jake Hyden, Grant Justice, Cameron Wright, Caleb Hager, Devin Hall, Karsten Poe, Colby Fugate, Nick Garrett, Gunner Williams, Will Gullett and Cory Jefferson.
