South Floyd captured its second straight 58th District title at Allen Central’s J.E. Campbell Arena on Friday night.

EASTERN – South Floyd claimed its second straight title with a 68-58 win over tournament host Allen Central in the championship game of the 58th District Boys’ Basketball Tournament at J.E. Campbell Arena on Friday night.

With the win, South Floyd, improved to 17-12.

Allen Central dropped to 17-15 with the loss.

Both South Floyd and Allen Central advance to the 15th Region Boys’ Basketball Tournament at the East Kentucky Expo Center in Pikeville.

South Floyd, under the direction of head coach Justin Holbrook, shot 50 percent (21-of-42) from the field. The Raiders were 5-of-11 (45.5 percent) from 3-point range.

South Floyd shot 65.6 percent (21-of-32) from the free throw line.

Flirting with a triple-double, Andrew Tackett led South Floyd 21 points, 11 rebounds and eight assists, all game-highs.

Accompanying Tackett in double figures for the Raiders, Brady Conn and Poppa Trammell contributed 13 points apiece.

Narrowly missing double figures, Jacob Collins contributed nine points for the Raiders.

South Floyd owned a lead at the end of each quarter. The Raiders led 28-23 at halftime and took a 45-38 lead out of the third quarter.

I thought the atmosphere was great, it was really fun to be a part of,” South Floyd Coach Justin Holbrook said. “The players set the goal at the first of the year to defend last year’s district championship. We are finally getting healthy and starting to come into our roles better and I really like where we are heading into the region. I’m proud of our players and coaching staff for accomplishing this goal. Everyone on the team stepped up big helped us pull out a great team win.”

Rounding out the South Floyd individual scoring, JR Tackett and Brady Ousley chipped in seven points and three points, respectively.

Allen Central shot only 32.8 percent (18-of-58) from the field. The Rebels finished 7-of-25 (28 percent) from 3-point range.

Allen Central shot 61.9 percent (13-of-21) from 3 point range.

On the boards, Allen Central managed to outrebound South Floyd 39-30.

Seth Hall paced Allen Central with 20 points. Joining Hall in double figures for the Rebels, Ethan Smith-Mills scored 12 points and Cameron Blevins netted 11 points. Registering a double-double, Blevins pulled down 11 rebounds for Allen Central in the loss.

Barely missing double figures, Dylan Caudill scored nine points.

Other scorers for the Rebels in the setback were Bret Samons (three points), Cameron Nelson (two points) and Sam Conley (one point).

Prestonsburg beat Betsy Layne to win the 58th District girls’ basketball championship.
