FRANKFORT — For the third time in the last four seasons, the University of Pikeville cheerleading team won the Mid-South Conference Team Championship, placing first out of five teams on Wednesday in the Frankfort Convention Center.

Based off the judges scoring, the Bears won the championship with a final score of 84.2, topping Campbellsville in second with 82.8 and Lindsey Wilson in third with 77.2.

Georgetown and Cumberlands rounded out the top five with 75 and 71 points, respectively.

UPIKE also won the conference championship in 2013 and 2014 and head coach Jeannie Stone has been there for all of them. For her efforts leading the Bears this season, she was named the league’s 2016 Coach of the Year, her third time receiving the honor.

Earlier in the day at the annual awards banquet, four from UPIKE were named All-MSC.

The Bears’ first-team selections were Nissona Hounshell and Megan Kirk, while Rachel Clark and Kaci Wilcox earned second-team honors.
