York tabbed 15th Region Boys’ Coach of the Year

LEXINGTON – Prior to guiding his team to a title, Lawrence County head coach Travis York had already been dubbed the 15th Region’s top coach.

The Kentucky Association of Basketball Coaches (KABC) has named York the 15th Region Boys’ Coach of the Year.

In less than two weeks, York guided Lawrence County to 60th District and 16th Region championships. Lawrence County defeated Johnson Central 75-64 in the 15th Region title game at the East Kentucky Expo Center in Pikeville on Monday night.

The Bulldogs will compete in the Boys’ Sweet 16 at Rupp Arena in Lexington next week.

Lawrence County is 29-4 heading into a state tournament game versus 6th Region champion Doss.

The 2016 KABC Boys’ Regional Coaches of the Year award-winners are as follows – Region 1: Brad Stieg (Paducah Tilghman); Region 2: Frankie Smith (Christian County); Region 3: Tim Riley (Owensboro Catholic); John Kirkpatrick (Whitesville Trinity); Region 4: D. G. Sherrill (Bowling Green); Region 5: J.C. Wright (Central Hardin); Region 6: Korey Craddock (North Bullitt); Region 7: Willie Feldhaus (Male); Region 8: Steve Simpson (South Oldham); Region 9: Ryan Schrand (Covington Holy Cross); Region 10: Mike Code (Bishop Brossart); Region 11: Allen Feldhaus (Madison Central); Region 12: Benny Blanton (Rockcastle County); Region 13: Brad Sizemore (North Laurel); Region 14: Shannon Hoskins (Perry County Central); Region 15: Travis York (Lawrence County); Region 16: Jeremy Webb (West Carter).
