MSU wins two national sports marketing awards

MOREHEAD – The Morehead State University athletic department has won two national awards from the National Association of Collegiate Marketing Administrators.

Initiated in 2003, the NACMA “Best of Awards” program honors outstanding achievement in marketing and promotions. Awards are presented in 13 categories, with each category divided into three groups based on school size and conference affiliations to promote fairness. MSU is in group two.

Morehead State won gold in the sales piece category for its “Lights Out” Black Out ticket and t-shirt package that was sold prior to the 2014 football home opener. The department also won silver in the sponsorship activation category for its “Tweet From Your Seat” promotion during basketball season.

“Our staff worked hard to create and implement these promotions, and I’m happy our efforts were recognized on a national scale,” Assistant Athletic Director for External Affairs Brad Smith said. “The goal is to engage our fans in innovative ways and provide them the most affordable and enjoyable experience when supporting our teams.”

More than 1,000 ticket/t-shirt packages were sold for $10 prior to MSU’s contest versus Pikeville (Ky.), and a season-best crowd of 8,918 saw the Eagles defeat the Bears 49-36.

In conjunction with Buffalo Wild Wings, the in-game “Tweet From Your Seat” promotion featured fans retweeting to the official MSU athletics account, @MSUEagles, for a chance to win gift certificates from BWW.
