DRIFT – After edging Class A counterpart Pikeville 5-4 in a season-opener, Allen Central lost in its home debut. Visiting Magoffin County, an opponent out of the neighboring 57th District, pulled away to beat the Rebels 4-1 on Tuesday.

Allen Central dropped to 1-1 with the loss.

With the win, Magoffin County moved to 1-0.

Magoffin County pitcher Jaren Lovely earned the win. Lovely tossed four innings, recording four strikeouts and holding Allen Central without an earned run. He was one of two Magoffin County pitchers to work from the mound in the season-opening contest.

Ryan Mullins pitched three innings for the Hornets, recording four strikeouts and allowing one unearned run.

Lovely (1-for-3) and Mullins (1-for-2) were also productive at the plate for the Hornets in the non-district victory.

Leading Magoffin County offensively, Chance Allen went 2-for-3.

Allen Central pitcher Wyatt Crisp suffered the loss.

The Rebels faced a four-run deficit at the conclusion of the third inning. Host Allen Central scored its only run in the seventh frame.

The Rebels are under the direction of first-year head coach Jeff Aldrich and aren’t scheduled to meet a Floyd County Conference/58th District opponent until near the end of the month.

Allen Central was visiting Paintsville for another non-district game versus a 15th Region rival on Thursday. Results from the Allen Central-Paintsville baseball game were unavailable at press time and will appear in the Wednesday, March 23 edition of The Times.
