DRIFT – Chad Hall has traded in his coaching duties – at least for now. These days, Hall, who guided the South Floyd football team as its head coach earlier in the schoolyear, can be found on the baseball diamond. The versatile Hall also guides the South Floyd baseball team as its head coach. Hall took over for Donny Daniels in both sports and inherited a young South Floyd baseball squad.
“Our team is very young and inexperienced,” Hall commented. “We lost eight starters from last year’s team. They have worked hard preparing for the season and are a very coachable group of young men. Our goal is to gain experience and improve each week. We want to be playing our best near tournament time.”
The future is bright for the Raiders. South Floyd’s 2016 roster features several sophomores, some of whom will start.
The Raiders, who compete with Allen Central, Betsy Layne and Prestonsburg in the Floyd County Conference/58th District, compiled a 12-17 record in 2015. Prestonsburg blanked South Floyd 6-0 in the first round of the 2015 58th District Boys’ Basketball Tournament at Drift Park. The Blackcats, following the opening round win over South Floyd, edged Allen Central 1-0 in the 58th District title game.
South Floyd is scheduled to open the 2016 season at home versus East Ridge on Monday. First pitch for the South Floyd-East Ridge baseball game is set for 5:30 p.m. in Drift.
Weather permitting, South Floyd will start its latest season with a lengthy homestand featuring additional early-season games versus Sheldon Clark, Oneida Baptist Institute (OBI) and Belfry, all of whom are familiar non-district foes.
