HI HAT – The South Floyd Raiders remain on top in the 58th District. South Floyd is home to back-to-back 58th District boys’ basketball champions after the Raiders pulled away to beat longtime rival Allen Central 68-58 earlier in the month. Under the direction of head coach Justin Holbrook, South Floyd concluded its latest season 17-13.
“We had a good season considering the injuries that we had early,” Holbrook said. “We accomplished our goal of winning the conference title and district tournament. However, we came up a little short against Magoffin County in the region tournament. I really proud of how the boys progressed during the season.”
Prior to winning conference and district titles, early in the 2015-16 season, South Floyd prevailed in the Smoky Mountain Classic.
Magoffin County ended South Floyd’s 2015-16 season, defeating the Raiders 61-57 in the first round of the 15th Region Boys’ Basketball Tournament at the East Kentucky Expo Center in Pikeville.
“Hopefully we can build on some of the momentum that we built this year and let that carry over into next season,” Holbrook added. “This senior class was the first class I’ve seen all the way through since they were freshmen. They will be sorely missed but have laid a foundation for next season.”
The South Floyd head coach will guide his team and prepare the squad for the 2016-17 campaign throughout the offseason.
“This summer we will be playing plenty of games around the region and will go to Georgetown College team camp in June,” Holbrook confided. “I feel like if we have a good summer we can have a really good team next year returning three starters.”
