NICEVILLE, Fla. – Will Boyd finished tied for seventh overall out of 33 golfers, but the University of Pikeville struggled to move up the leaderboard as a team on Tuesday, finishing in fifth place at the Emmanuel Spring Invite at the Rocky Bayou Country Club.
UPIKE finished fifth with a team score of 653, while host Emmanuel won the title with a 631 and Southern Wesleyan and Oklahoma Baptist tied for second with scores of 637.
Boyd tallied rounds of 77 and 80 for a 157 total to lead UPIKE. He was followed on the team by Tyler Smith in 15th place with a 165 (82-83) and Burgess Clark in 19th place after carding a 168 (86-82).
Saulomon Lanigan had a solid start on day one with an 82, but took himself out of play with an injury on Tuesday. Zac Mullins stepped up in his place, going from a 90 in the first round to an 81 to finish tied for 22nd overall with a score of 171.
Emmanuel’s Jason Murphy and Oklahoma Baptist’s Drew Posada tied for the tournament lead with 151s.
