Rebels attend Thomas Moore College basketball camp

EASTERN – The Allen Central High School boys’ basketball team, under the direction of head coach Brad Short, attended the Thomas Moore College Basketball Camp earlier in the month.

“We just got back from the Thomas More College basketball camp,” Short commented. “We had a good time and are now finished for the summer.”

At the Thomas Moore camp, Allen Central joined boys’ high school basketball teams from throughout Kentucky and other surrounding states.

Not too long after returning home from camp, Short and his program gave back to the community and several of its young people. Short, members of his coaching staff and Allen Central boys’ basketball players have spent this past week working with children during an annual youth hoops camp.

Allen Central finished runner-up to longtime rival South Floyd in the 58th District last season. South Floyd, playing on its home floor at Raider Arena, held on to beat the Rebels 35-28, prevailing in a low-scoring game. Allen Central’s season ended following a loss to Lawrence County in the opening round of the 15th Region Boys’ Basketball Tournament at the East Kentucky Expo Center in Pikeville.

The Rebels compiled a 13-18 record in the 2014-15 season, finishing 10th in the final 15th Region boys’ basketball standings. Allen Central’s 2014-15 season included a five-game winning streak.

In addition to South Floyd, Allen Central battles former frontrunner Betsy Layne and Prestonsburg in the all-Floyd County 58th District.
