Hussey earns National Men’s Basketball Academic Honor

PIKEVILLE – The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) announced on Tuesday that University of Pikeville senior Jackson Hussey has been named a 2016 Daktronics-NAIA Men’s Basketball Scholar-Athlete.

In order to be nominated by an institution’s head coach or sports information director, a student-athlete must maintain a minimum grade-point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale and have achieved at least junior academic status.

This is the first scholar-athlete award for Hussey who transferred into the Bears’ program last season as a junior. In two seasons, the Perth, Australia native scored 586 points, dished out 164 assists and pulled down 254 rebounds in 64 games.

This season, Hussey played in all 31 games, making 16 starts. He averaged 8.6 points and 3.5 rebounds per game. He scored a career-high 22 points at Ave Maria (Fla.) before adding two games with 21 points against Georgetown and Shawnee State (Ohio) in back-to-back Mid-South Conference games.
