TRAVELERS REST, S.C. – Will Boyd led the University of Pikeville men’s golf team individually in a tie for 37th place overall with a two-round total of 156 strokes, shooting 12-over par in the Cliffs Intercollegiate at The Cliffs at Mountain Park on Tuesday.
The Bears finished 13th overall with a team score of 637. They actually improved from a 324 on day one to a 313 on Tuesday, but the other programs also stepped up their games.
Queen’s-Charlotte (N.C.) took the team title with 589 (293-296) strokes and Young Harris finished as the runner-up with a score of 595 (292-303).
Boyd, a Pikeville High School graduate, improved six strokes from his day one total with a 75, while Burgess Clark backed him up in a tie for 41st place overall with round of 75 and 82. Kelly Porter and Tyler Smith both carded 162’s to finish tied for 54th place. Porter had the best run among them, shooting a 77 on Tuesday.
The individual title went to David Wallin of Young Harris who shot 69 and 71 to finish with 140 strokes overall.
