DRIFT – Through Monday, Floyd County was home to the winningest baseball team in the 15th Region. Through eight games, under the tutelage of first-year head coach Jeff Aldrich, Allen Central owned a 7-1 record. The Rebels have more wins than any other 15th Region baseball team.
Former 15th Region champion Allen Central has posted wins over Pikeville, Paintsville, Shelby Valley, Knott County Central, Phelps and East Ridge. The Rebels swept a doubleheader from Pike County opponent East Ridge on Friday.
Allen Central was scheduled to host Betsy Layne for a 58th District/Floyd County Conference on Tuesday. Results from the Allen Central-Betsy Layne baseball game were unavailable at press time.
Betsy Layne is 1-4 through its first five games. The Bobcats edged Jenkins 12-11 for their first win in the 2016 season on Friday. Prior to outlasting Jenkins, Betsy Layne had dropped games to Phelps, Pike County Central, Belfry and Shelby Valley.
Prestonsburg is 4-1 through its first five games. The Blackcats, who are under the direction of new head coach Shawn Hager, boast wins over East Ridge, Powell County, Raceland and Pike County Central.
Lawrence County dealt Prestonsburg its first loss in the 2016 season over the weekend, defeating the Blackcats 18-16 in a slugfest.
South Floyd is 1-3. The Raiders beat Oneida Baptist Institute 19-14 on Saturday. South Floyd has dropped games to East Ridge, Sheldon Clark and Belfry.
