Blackcats handle Hornets, 14-4

SALYERSVILLE – Prestonsburg pulled away to beat host Magoffin County 14-4 in a non-district high school baseball game on Wednesday night.

Familiar foes, Prestonsburg and Magoffin County are 15th Region foes.

The Blackcats improved to 5-1 with the win.

With the loss, the Hornets dropped to 5-2.

On the mound for Prestonsburg, veteran pitcher Scott Stapleton worked the first four innings and earned the win.

Going from the mound out of a relief role, Reece Ison, another experienced hurler, pitched the last three innings for the Blackcats.

Stapleton (two hits), Ison (two hits, one RBI), Wesley Hager (one hit, one RBI), Bryce Tucker (two hits, two RBIs), John Cooksey (two hits, two RBIs), Nick Rowe (one hit, two RBIs) and Bailey Slone (one hit, two RBIs) and Ryne Slone (one hit) all produced at the plate for the Blackcats.

Ison smacked a double for the Blackcats, who won for the second time in as many outings.

The Blackcats and Hornets aren’t scheduled to meet again during the current campaign.

Prestonsburg was hosting Paintsville on Thursday evening. The Blackcats are scheduled to meet 58th District/Floyd County Conference counterpart Betsy Layne in the first round of the 15th Region All “A” Classic on April 5.
