UPIKE places third NDA Small Team Championships

The University of Pikeville dance team reached new heights on Thursday, finishing a program-best third in the preliminary round of the National Dance Association (NDA) Team Championships to qualify for Friday morning’s finals.

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Fewer than 0.3 points separated the University of Pikeville dance team from a national title as it finished a program-best third in the National Dance Association (NDA) NAIA Small Team Championship finals on Friday at the Bandshell.

The Bears’ previous best finish was fourth in 2013. This time around they scored 8.645 points to round out the top three as Oklahoma City won the championship with 8.922 points and Baker (Kan.) was the runner up with 8.873.

Davenport (Mich.), Midland (Neb.) and Lindenwood-Belleville (Mo.) rounded out the final standings in that order.

The UPIKE dance team is under the direction of head coach Jill Darby, a Prestonsburg native.
