LOUISA – The Tug Valley Bass Anglers fishing club held its second tournament of the 2016 season on Yatesville Lake over the weekend. Mike Patrick was among the 29 anglers who competed in the event on Sunday. Patrick won the event after catching five fish (19.00 lbs.).
Yatesville Lake was two feet above winter pool with stained water on the entire lake and a water temperature in the low 50’s.
Weather for the tournament was solid with mostly cloudy skies, light winds and an air temperature starting in the low 20s at blast off and warming to 60 degrees.
The fishing for the tournament was slow. All of the fish are still prespawn and relating to steeper banks on the main lake and in the creeks in four to 10 feet of water close to spawning areas.
The main pattern for the tournament was to fish soft plastic crawfish imitations, jigs and crankbaits around the prespawn staging areas.
The top finishers were as follows: 1st – Mike Patrick (5 fish), 19.00 lbs.; 2nd – Tommy Hopkins (4 fish), 9.63 lbs.; 3rd – Kevin Runyon (2 fish), 4.82 lbs.; 4th – Brad May (1 fish), 3.24 lbs.; 5th – Brandon Staten (1 fish), 2.29 lbs.; 6th – Tim Marcum (1 fish), 2.18 lbs.; 7th – Timmy Robinson (1 fish), 2.01 lbs.; 8th – Rupus Bowens (1 fish), 1.89 lbs.; 9th – Gary Varney (1 fish),1.85 lbs.; 10th – Ernie Adkins (1 fish), 1.81 lbs.
