ALLEN – The Wesley Christian High School boys’ basketball program has a new addition for the 2016-17 season. David Meddings has been announced as the new Wesley Christian High School boys’ basketball head coach. Longtime head coach Jack Jarrell will remain on staff as associate head coach and also serve as the school’s athletic director.
Meddings’ coaching experience includes stints as an assistant coach at Union College (Ky.) and national powerhouse Huntington Prep (W.Va.). Most recently, Meddings served as an assistant on the Union College coaching staff.
At Huntington Prep, Meddings coached Andrew Wiggins, Thomas Bryant and Miles Bridges, three of the nation’s top basketball players.
His resume includes two national final four finishes on the high school level. At Union College, Meddings helped guide the Bulldogs to their highest national ranking ever at number four in NAIA.
“I am excited for the opportunity Wesley Christian and the members of the school and community are giving me to be the head coach of their program,” Meddings said. “Wesley has had some great seasons the past few years and what Coach (Jack) Jarrell has built is amazing and a great accomplishment. I am extremely fortunate to have the trust of them to come in and help take Wesley to a national level competitively.
“At the end of the day, our goal will be to compete on the highest stages of high school basketball but it’s about getting an opportunity to coach high level talent and help kids out giving them a chance to attend a great school like Wesley and play on a higher level athletically. I know what it takes to be part of a program that competes for national titles, I’m bringing that ambition and excitement to Eastern Kentucky. With the new facility and great academics Wesley has always had, it’s an easy pitch to some of the best players in the country and the world to want to come.”
Jarrell is looking forward to working with Meddings and remaining involved with the Wesley Christian boys’ basketball program.
“I’m going to be focusing more on the athletic director position as well as continuing to be over basketball operations at the school,” Jarrell said. “We’ve grown to be a nationally recognized program over the last few seasons and we felt it was time to grow our coaching staff. Coach (David) Meddings will continue pursuing our dreams of being a nationally ranked program and he brings a level of experience that we feel will help us reach that goal. We’re excited to have him and his family on board at Wesley Christian.”
The Wesley Christian High School boys’ basketball program will finalize and release its 2016-17 schedule later in the year.
