BOWLING GREEN – The University of Pikeville men’s golf team played three consistent rounds to finish fourth out of eight in the Mid-South Conference Championship at the Bowling Green Country Club on Wednesday.
UPIKE ended the championship with 914 total strokes, tallying rounds of 303, 304 and 307 to finish just outside the top three.
Cumberlands won the team title with a score of 857 (288-281-288), followed by Lindsey Wilson in second place at 880 (295-294-291) and Cumberland (Tenn.) in third with 890 (296-297-297) strokes.
Will Boyd paced the Bears in 15th place overall with a total score of 225 (71-75-79), Kelly Porter backed him up in 18th place with 228 (76-76-76) strokes and Saulomon Lanigan ended up third on the team with a total score of 229 (76-78-75) strokes to finish tied for 19th place on the leaderboard.
Joining that group in the top 25 was Tyler Smith, in a tie for 25th place overall, with a score of 233 (80-76-77).
Ben Kendrick and Callum McGuigan of Cumberlands finished first and second overall with total scores of 205 and 213 overall. Kendrick had the low round of the championship on Tuesday with a 64.
UPIKE wrapped up the 2015-16 season with four tournament wins and Lanigan took home the MSC Freshman of the Year award. Boyd was named Second Team All-MSC and Kelly Porter earned Academic All-MSC honors.
