BOWLING GREEN – The University of Pikeville women’s golf team wrapped up the Mid-South Conference Championship with 989 total strokes with rounds of 324, 336 and 329 to finish fifth overall on Wednesday at the Bowling Green Country Club.
The Bears started out in third place after the first 18 holes with a round of 324, but dropped back two spots over the next two rounds. Lindsey Wilson finished seven strokes ahead of UPIKE at 982, while Cumberland (Tenn.) was one stroke in front of that at 981.
Cumberlands and Campbellsville were out in front of the pack with scores of 910 and 938, respectively. The Patriots add the tournament championship to their regular-season title.
Ayla Rhinesmith ended up leading UPIKE in a tie for 14th place overall with a score of 243 (81-82-80), followed by Brittany Brophy tied for 18th place with a 245 (79-82-84). Lauren Vice and Christen Cropper also finished in the top 25 overall in 20th and 21st place, respectively.
Vice shot a 250 (81-85-84) and Cropper turned in a 251 (83-87-81) to earn their top-25 spots.
Constanze Sieker of Cumberlands won the individual title with a score of 222 (71-75-76) on her way to earning MSC Freshman of the Year honors. Campbellsville’s Cassidy Scantland was named MSC Golfer of the Year.
UPIKE concluded the 2015-16 season with three tournament wins and one runner-up finish.
