GOODY – Prestonsburg couldn’t shake a slow start on the road at Belfry earlier in the week. Host Belfry took advantage of its offensive opportunities to beat Prestonsburg 6-1 in a 15th Region baseball matchup on Tuesday.

Familiar 15th Region counterparts, Prestonsburg and Belfry are non-district foes.

Prestonsburg slipped to 13-3 with the loss.

With the win, Belfry improved to 12-5.

Pirate pitchers Avery Browning and Austin Dotson combined to hold Prestonsburg to only one run.

Struggling to produce offensively, Prestonsburg left nine runners on base during the non-district game.

Belfry, however, managed to advance its runners.

Prestonsburg pitcher Scott Stapleton suffered the loss. Stapleton started on the mound for the Blackcats.

Working out of a relief role, Wesley Hager pitched after Stapleton.

Bryce Tucker led the Prestonsburg offensive effort with two hits, one of which was a double.

Hager, Reece Ison, John Cooksey and Bailey Slone added one hit apiece for the Blackcats. Ison drove in Prestonsburg’s only run. Hager, Ison and John Cooksey provided one double apiece in the setback.

Each team committed one error.
