OLIVE HILL – Host West Carter pulled away to beat Prestonsburg 13-3 in five innings via the Kentucky High School Athletic Association’s 10-Run Rule in the All “A” Classic sectional on Friday.
West Carter improved to 16-4 with the win.
With the loss, Prestonsburg dropped to 13-4.
West Carter pitcher Ben Jordan earned the win. Jordan registered 13 strikeouts.
Prestonsburg pitcher Nick Rowe suffered the loss.
West Carter plated 13 runs via 14 hits. The Comets scored first and never trailed. West Carter pushed across two runs in the bottom half of the first inning and crossed home plate three more times during its second at-bat.
The productive Comets, finishing strong, scored seven runs over their last two plate appearances to force the game to end early via the 10-Run Rule.
Pacing West Carter offensively and helping his pitching cause, Jordan smacked a home run. Dalton Thornsberry, JT Johnson and Chase Hanshaw each had a double for the Comets.
Peyton Brown was West Carter’s most consistent batter, finishing 3-for-3 with four runs.
Prestonsburg plated three runs via five hits. Scott Stapleton drilled a double for the Blackcats in the setback.
Prestonsburg committed seven errors in the loss.
