DRIFT – Allen Central outlasted visiting Prestonsburg 7-6 in 10 innings in a 58th District/Floyd County Conference baseball game at Drift Park on Tuesday.

The Rebels and Blackcats met for a battle of first-year head coaches. Jeff Aldrich is in his first season guiding the Rebels. Following a one-year stint with the Sheldon Clark baseball program, Shawn Hager is guiding the Blackcats.

With the win, Allen Central improved to 14-7 overall and 5-0 in the 58th District/Floyd County Conference.

Prestonsburg, which captured a 15th Region All “A” Classic championship earlier in the month, dropped to 14-7 overall and 3-1 in the district/conference with the loss.

The Rebels won in the bottom half of the 10th inning when leadoff batter Bret Samons scored the game-winning run off a fielder’s choice from Cameron Blevins.

Allen Central pitcher Dustin Johnson claimed the win. Rebel relief pitcher Matt Combs earned the save.

Prestonsburg pitcher Grant Martin suffered the loss.

Offensively, Blevins and Wyatt Crisp delivered doubles for the Rebels in the district victory.

Allen Central returned to the win columns after dropping back-to-back games to 14th Region title contenders Hazard and Knott County Central.

Prestonsburg slipped back into the loss column after defeating visiting Phelps 9-1 in a home game one day earlier. The Blackcats lost for the fifth time in six outings.

Prestonsburg is the reigning 58th District champion. The Blackcats edged the Rebels 1-0 in the 2015 58th District title game.

Allen Central is scheduled to visit Prestonsburg for another 58th District/Floyd County Conference game on Friday.
