UPIKE finishes fourth in MSC President’s Cup Standings

PIKEVILLE – For the second straight season, the University of Pikeville athletic department finished fourth out of nine institutions in the Mid-South Conference President’s Cup standings.

The two fourth-place showings in the all-sports contest are the best in the 16 seasons the Bears have competed in the MSC.

Points are awarded based on the final regular-season standings for each conference-sanctioned sport. The regular-season champion in each sport receives 10 points with second place receiving nine points, etc.

At the conclusion of the academic year, the top six male and top six female team finishes for each institution generates its overall score.

UPIKE collected 92 points, trailing Cumberlands in third place with 103.5, Campbellsville in second at 110.5 and Lindsey Wilson capturing the cup with 115 points.

Thirty of the Bears’ points came from their three conference championships, including men’s bowling, women’s bowling and cheer. Other top finishes for UPIKE were men’s basketball taking second place, men’s tennis tying for second, baseball tying for third and men’s golf and softball finishing fourth in the league standings.
