BETSY LAYNE – The Betsy Layne football program has finalized and released its 2016 schedule. Under the direction of veteran head coach Jonathan Parsons, Betsy Layne will open the upcoming campaign with back-to-back home games.
In all, Betsy Layne will host six home games during the 2016 season.
The Bobcats continue to rebuild after finishing the 2015 season 0-10. Betsy Layne competed in a powerlifting meet at East Ridge High School over the weekend.
The Bobcats will host in-county rival South Floyd in a season-opener on Aug. 19. South Floyd is preparing to take the field under the guidance of second-year head coach Chad Hall.
Following its season-opener versus South Floyd, Betsy Layne will remain at home to face Morgan County on Aug. 26.
The Bobcats will visit Sheldon Clark for their first away game on Sept. 2. New head coach Chester McCoy is set to guide the Cardinals.
Returning home following the initial away game, Betsy Layne will host Magoffin County on Sept. 9.
The Bobcats will visit Knott County Central on Sept. 16, making the trip to the neighboring county for their second away game.
The second half of Betsy Layne’s 2016 season will start with three consecutive home games against Leslie County on Sept. 23, Shelby Valley on Sept. 30 and Allen Central on Oct. 7.
The Bobcats will visit East Ridge on Oct. 14 and then venture to Prestonsburg on Oct. 21, remaining on the road over the final two weeks of the regular-season.
Betsy Layne has Oct. 28 set as its open date. The Bobcats will look to return to the postseason after failing to qualify for the playoffs in 2015.
Betsy Layne competes in Class 2A, District 8, along with Shelby Valley, Prestonsburg, Leslie County, East Ridge and Allen Central.
Kickoff for each Betsy Layne football game in the 2016 season is set for 7:30 p.m.
