PRESTONSBURG – The South Floyd Lady Raiders pulled away to defeat the host Prestonsburg Lady Blackcats 13-4 at StoneCrest Park on Thursday (May 5) to remain undefeated in the 58th District.
With the win, South Floyd moved to 5-0 in the 58th District and 8-11 overall.
Prestonsburg dropped to 0-4 in the district and 1-15 overall with the loss.
South Floyd pitcher Leighann Hall earned the win.
Prestonsburg pitcher Mariana Jacobs suffered the loss.
The Lady Raiders, under the guidance of head coach Scott Shannon, scored first and never trailed. Moving ahead early, South Floyd pushed across three runs in the top half of the first inning.
Prestonsburg plated one run during its first at-bat but struggled to keep up with 58th District/Floyd County rival South Floyd.
Hall, Brooke Potter, Nikki Johnson and Cheyenne Light scored two runs apiece for the Lady Raiders.
Brandy Osborne, Kailey Shannon, Sydney Hall, Katie Moore, Melanie Osborne and Brooke Stumbo also contributed to South Floyd’s victory.
Pacing Prestonsburg on the basepaths, Hannah Depoy scored two runs.
Two other Lady Blackcats – Kassidy Griffith and Arrington Wright – scored one run apiece in the setback.
Both South Floyd and Prestonsburg will compete in the 58th District Softball Tournament later in the month.
South Floyd is the defending 58th District champion. The Lady Raiders beat Betsy Layne 11-5 in the 2015 58th District championship game.
