Matt Combs pitched a complete game shutout to lead Allen Central over Madison Southern in the Bill Orme Classic.

IRVINE – Allen Central starting pitcher Matt Combs threw a complete game shutout to lead the Rebels past Madison Southern 4-0 in the Bill Orme Classic at Estill County on Saturday.

Combs, who recorded a save in Allen Central’s 7-3 victory over host Estill County in the tournament, controlled Madison Southern batters throughout the matchup. Madison Southern batters struggled to produce against the Allen Central hurler.

An eighth-grader, Combs ranks as one of Eastern Kentucky’s top young high school baseball pitchers.

Stretching its lead in the fifth inning, Allen Central added three more runs.

Seth Hall, Kane Taylor and Blevins – the top three hitters in the Allen Central batting order – reached base and scored in the fifth inning to allow Allen Central to take a commanding 4-0 lead.

The Rebels exited the Estill County-hosted tournament with a 16-11 record.

Allen Central entered the final week of the regular-season with games remaining versus 15th Region rivals Belfry and Shelby Valley.

The Rebels will compete in the 2016 58th District Baseball Tournament next week. Former 15th Region champion Allen Central finished runner-up behind Prestonsburg in the 2015 58th District Baseball Tournament.

Jeff Aldrich is in his first season as the head coach of the Allen Central baseball program.
