LICK CREEK – Visiting Prestonsburg pulled away to beat 15th Region rival East Ridge 19-2 in five innings in a high school baseball game on Tuesday (May 10).
Prestonsburg pitcher Scott Stapleton earned the win. Stapleton, a veteran player for the Blackcats, held East Ridge scoreless in two innings.
Two different players took to the mound for Prestonsburg in the non-district contest. John Cooksey tossed three innings for the Blackcats.
Stapleton provided a lift both defensively and offensively. Helping his pitching cause at the plate, Stapleton delivered two hits and two RBIs.
Wesley Hager paced Prestonsburg offensively, providing three hits and three RBIs for the Blackcats in the non-district victory.
Ryne Slone also contributed two hits and two RBIs for Prestonsburg in the triumph.
Several Blackcats were active offensively in the winning effort.
Grant Martin (one RBI), Bryce Tucker (one hit, two RBIs), Nick Rowe (one hit), Bailey Slone (one RBI), Zion Echols (one hit), Nick Caudill (one RBI), Tanner Hicks (one hit), Dawson Hamilton (one double), Cameron Blackburn (one hit, one RBI) and Andrew Hale (one hit, two RBIs) also produced at the plate for the Blackcats.
Former 15th Region champion Prestonsburg is under the direction of first-year head coach Shawn Hager. Earlier in the season, Prestonsburg captured the 15th Region All “A” Classic championship.
Longtime 15th Region rivals, Prestonsburg and East Ridge met for the first time in the 2016 season.
