MOREHEAD – Kayoncia Tate, a transfer from Walters State (Tenn.) Community College, has joined the Morehead State women’s basketball program. Tate will have two years of eligibility remaining beginning with the 2015-16 campaign.
A native of Dyersburg, Tenn., Tate began her collegiate career at Northeast Mississippi Community College. She averaged 14.5 points in 2013-14 before an injury cut her season short.
“I expect Kayoncia to be one of our best shooters and defensive players this coming season,” Head Coach Greg Todd said. “She performed at a high level for two very good junior college programs.”
Tate transferred to Walters State in 2014-15 and averaged 7.5 points while earning First-Team All-Conference and First-Team All-Region accolades. She helped Head Coach Dave Kragel’s squad to a 32-4 mark and fourth-place showing in the National Junior College Athletic Association Division I Tournament.
A three-time all-conference selection at Dyersburg High School, Tate averaged 21.3 points, 8.2 assists and 5.7 rebounds as a senior for Head Coach Randy Coffman.
Tate joins Miranda Crockett and Brianna McQueen as newcomers to the program for 2015-16. Crockett, an incoming freshman, signed in the fall. McQueen, who will become eligible after the first semester in December, transferred from East Tennessee State, and will have two seasons of eligibility left.
