PAINTSVILLE – Prestonsburg faced multiple deficits before host Paintsville pulled away to win 13-6 in a late-season 15th Region baseball matchup on Monday.
The Blackcats encountered a much-improved Paintsville squad as the Tigers thrived offensively throughout the late-season contest. Injuries had plagued rejuvenated Paintsville during the first half of the 2016 high school baseball season.
Three different Prestonsburg players pitched two innings apiece. Blackcat hurler Scott Stapleton was stuck with the loss.
Wesley Hager and Nick Rowe also pitched for the Blackcats in the setback.
Prestonsburg delivered 10 hits en route to plating six runs. The Blackcats, however, left runners on base in multiple innings.
Stapleton and Reece Ison each went 2-for-4 with two RBIs for the Blackcats. Hager also went 2-for-4 for the the visiting team.
Rowe, Ryne Slone, Bryce Tucker and Bailey Slone contributed one hit apiece.
Slone and Rowe drove in one run apiece for the Blackcats.
Former state champion Paintsville claimed its second straight win.
Familiar 15th Region foes, Prestonsburg and Paintsville met for the second time in the 2016 season. Prestonsburg outlasted Paintsville 8-6 in the 15th Region All “A” Classic in early-April.
With the loss, Prestonsburg dropped to 21-11.
Paintsville improved to 18-15 with the win.
