BELFRY – Visiting Allen Central beat 15th Region rival Belfry 8-5 in a 15th Region baseball matchup that served as a regular-season finale on Tuesday.
Allen Central improved to 17-11 with the win.
With the loss, Belfry dropped to 18-13.
Allen Central pitcher Austin Lawson earned the win on the mound. Lawson pitched a complete game on his way to claiming the victory.
Belfry hurler Kaleb Taylor took the loss.
Allen Central scored first but couldn’t keep a lead until past the midway point of the contest.
Homestanding Belfry moved ahead early, plating three runs in the bottom half of the first inning. The Pirates forced Allen Central to play from behind.
But Allen Central battled back. The determined Rebels scored three runs in both the fourth and fifth innings.
Belfry was held scoreless in four consecutive at-bats. The Pirates, prior to falling short, scored two more runs in the sixth inning.
Cameron Blevins proved to be a big thorn in Belfry’s side on the base paths. The number three hitter in the Allen Central batting order, Blevins scored four of the Rebels’ eight runs.
Cleanup batter Kane Taylor scored two runs for the Rebels in the winning effort.
Hitters up and down the Allen Central batting order produced. Lawson, Jeffrey Samons, Seth Hall, Wyatt Crisp, Dustin Johnson, Cameron Nelson, Steven Howard and Rico Dominguez also contributed offensively for the Allen Central baseball team.
The Rebels are scheduled to take the field for a game against Betsy Layne in the 58th District Baseball Tournament at Drift on Monday. First pitch for the Allen Central-Betsy Layne game is set for 6 p.m.
