MSU Athletics rebrands its communications platforms

MOREHEAD – The Morehead State University athletic department has successfully rebranded its Twitter and YouTube accounts, while adding an Instagram account. Information on MSU athletic events, student-athletes and coaches can now be accessed via Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and YouTube at MSUEagles. The department’s web site continues to be MSUEagles.com.

“We are excited about the steps we’ve recently taken,” Assistant AD for External Affairs Brad Smith said. “Previously, our communications platforms were all over the place. Now, all of our information can be accessed via MSUEagles. We wanted to be consistent and unique. There are lots of MSUAthletics and MSUSports, but, to our knowledge, only one MSUEagles.”

Morehead State’s Twitter account, which originally launched in 2009, has grown by more than 33 percent in the past school year. It recently surpassed 6,000 followers. Recent individual tweets have reached 15,000 impressions and 1,500 engagements.

Morehead State’s Facebook account, which also started in 2009, has grown by more than 25 percent in the past school year. It recently surpassed 7,000 likes. Recent individual posts have produced 1,500 engagements and several hundred likes/shares.

MSU’s YouTube account features contest highlights, event promotions, coach/student-athlete interviews and unique access videos. More than 100 pieces of on-demand content were uploaded in the past school year. Many of the channel’s videos reached 500 views.

Morehead State’s athletic video operation continues to stream more than 50 live events each school year through OVCDigitalNetwork.com. The league’s video platform, which just completed its third school year, is free and requires no registration. Each Eagle Vision production includes play-by-play, multiple cameras, replays and graphics.

“We are looking for more innovative ways to engage our fan base with more visually appealing content,” Smith said. “The way content is collected and disseminated now is much different than five or 10 years ago. Most of our focus these days revolves around the mobile device because that’s where most of our fans consume information. It’s an exciting, but challenging time.”

Soccer begins regular-season action at home on Friday, Aug. 21. Volleyball opens its home slate on Friday, Aug. 28. Football kicks off its home schedule on Saturday, Sept. 19. All fall schedules will be released soon. For the latest, visit MSUEagles.com.

“Our 2014-15 school year ended with an NCAA Baseball Tournament appearance, and we hope to carry that momentum into 2015-16,” Smith added. “There’s lots to be excited about for the upcoming school year. We have so many talented student-athletes in all sports, we have lots of quality coaches on board and we are making facility improvements.”
