HI HAT – South Floyd will travel to Powell County for a preseason scrimmage on Aug. 15. Start time for the high school football scrimmage is slated for 6 p.m. in Stanton.
The Raiders are set to compete under the direction of first-year head coach Chad Hall, who replaced longtime head coach Donnie Daniels.
Prior to kicking off the 2015 season, South Floyd will have an extra week to prepare for its first opponent.
“We elected a bye week during the season, so we start our regular season in Week 0,” Hall confided.
South Floyd posted a 5-6 record in Daniels’ final season in 2014. The Raiders outscored opponents 344-306 during the 2014 season. South Floyd hosted Fairview in the opening round of the Class 1A Russell Athletic/KHSAA Commonwealth Gridiron Bowl. Visiting Fairview, two years removed from finishing as the state runner-up in Class 1A, outlasted the Raiders 48-32.
South Floyd is scheduled to host Betsy Layne for a season-opener Aug. 21. Last season, Betsy Layne overcame a slow start to defeat the Raiders in a shootout, winning 64-44.
The remainder of South Floyd’s 2015 schedule will include games versus Harlan, Knott County Central, Allen Central, Pikeville, Twin Valley (Va.), Jenkins, Hazard, Phelps and East Ridge.
Powell County finished the 2014 season 3-7, missing out on advancing to the Class 3A State Playoffs. The Pirates posted wins over Magoffin County, Bath County and Morgan County, Powell County, however, dropped games to Lincoln County, Prestonsburg, Lewis County, Estill County, Garrard County, Bourbon County and Western Hills.
