MOREHEAD – More than 100 people participated in the annual Morehead State Athletics Golf Outing on Saturday at Eagle Trace Golf Course. The crowd included coaches, athletic department staff members, former student-athletes, corporate partners, donors, fans and other program supporters.
The fundraiser started at 9 a.m. Rain put a slight hold on the event, but the weather cleared and all participants were able to finish the round under sunny skies. Drinks and snacks were available throughout the round, while all participants were invited to meals before and after they played.
“Everyone’s support in this event means a lot to us. We are all one big family here at Morehead State,” Assistant AD for External Affairs Brad Smith said. “We’re out here to raise funds for our student-athletes, and that’s what we are really all about.”
The affair concluded with a brief awards ceremony. Morehead State University volleyball head coach Jaime Gordon’s group won the team competition at 24 under par. Billy Foutch and former Morehead State women’s golfer Hannah Sublett recorded the event’s longest drives.
“It’s a great event because fans don’t usually get to see the coaches up close,” said Morehead State Athletics Hall of Famer Jim Wells. “In football, the closest you get to Coach Tenyer is like 60 yards. In basketball, you see Coach Woods down on the floor. In baseball, Coach McGuire has a hat on, and you don’t recognize him. During this event, they’re all people, and you get to talk to them up close and personal.”
