MOREHEAD – The Tug Valley Bass Anglers fishing club held its fifth tournament of the 2016 season on Cave Run Lake over the weekend. A total 33 anglers competed in the event. In the end, Floyd County native Johnny Webb prevailed.
Cave Run Lake in was at summer pool with clear to lightly stained water on the entire lake. The water temperature around 80-85 degrees.
Weather for the tournament was hot and humid with sunny skies, no wind and an air temperature around 90 to 95 degrees.
The fishing was fair, with nearly every angler weighing fish. The fish were caught in 1 to 15 feet of water on the main lake as well as in the pockets and creeks.
The main pattern for this tournament was to fish soft plastic baits, worms or crawdad imitations around wood. Finesse fishing with small worms accounted for most of the fish weighed in.
The top finishers were as follows: 1st — Johnny Webb (5 fish), 4.30 lbs.; 2nd — Greg Maynard (5 fish), 4.26 lbs.; 3rd — Lynn Fields (3 fish), 4.04 lbs.; 4th — Kevin Runyon (5 fish), 3.96 lbs.; 5th — Timmy Robinson (5 fish), 3.81 lbs.; 6th — Cody Justice (5 fish), 3.80 lbs.; 7th — Mike Cullop (5 fish), 3.43 lbs.; 8th — Brandon Staten (5 fish), 3.35 lbs.; 9th — Keith Pacific (5 fish), 3.28 lbs.; 10th – Mitch Salmons (5 fish), 2.84 lbs.
