Stephens wins Kentucky Senior Open

Staff Report

RICHMOND – Eastern Kentucky University men’s golf head coach Pat Stephens won the 2016 Kentucky Senior Open on Wednesday at Persimmon Ridge in Louisville.

Stephens was tied for the lead after Tuesday’s first round score of 69. A final round 75 was good enough to win by one shot over three players tied for second. Stephens finished with a 36-hole total of 144.

The 2016-17 season will be Stephens’ 20th at the helm of the Eastern Kentucky men’s golf program, having led the Colonels to unprecedented success in that time.

EKU made it three conference titles in 10 seasons when the team captured the 2015 Ohio Valley Conference Championship. The Colonels moved from sixth to first on day two and never trailed again as Stephens was presented with his third OVC Coach of the Year Award.

This past season, Stephens had the Colonels in contention on the final day for a second straight conference championship.
