Prestonsburg High School fall sports teams will meet members of the media and fans in early-August.

PRESTONSBURG – Prestonsburg High School will host a media day for all of its fall sports from 1-5 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 1. John DeRossett, the longtime head coach of the PHS football program, announced the media day.

“We will be having media day for all fall sports at PHS on Aug. 1,” DeRossett said. “We will have food, fun and music for everyone. We would like to invite all media outlets and fans to this event. Each team will have a team photo taken. All coaches and athletes will be doing interviews on our local access channel and speaking with other members of the media. We feel this is a good way to kick off another great schoolyear at PHS. In the spring, we are going to do the same thing with our spring sports teams.”

A pair of DeRossett’s former players are working in new coaching positions. Brandon “Bubba” Combs is the new offensive line coach at national high school powerhouse Trinity High School in Louisville and former Blackcat quarterback Michael Burchett is an offensive graduate assistant on the West Virginia University coaching staff.

“Congratulations to one of my former players at Betsy Layne, Brandon “Bubba” Combs, who will be coaching the offensive line at Trinity High School in Louisville,” DeRossett confided. “He joins another one of my former players – Nathan Leslie – on the staff. I am very proud of both of these guys and all their successes.

“Hopefully Linda and I will be able to make a trip to Morgantown, W.Va. to watch our own Coach Michael Burchett help the Mountaineers win a Big 12 Championship. He is doing a great job for Coach (Dana) Holgorsen and we are so proud of his accomplishments. Michael is an amazing young man and he has a bright future in coaching.”
