P’burg to hold media day on Aug. 7

The Prestonsburg High School football program presented a check for equipment to the Adams Middle School football program in June.


PRESTONSBURG – The Prestonsburg High School football program will host its annual media day at 6:30 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 7.

During the event, Prestonsburg players and coaches will be available to speak to members of the media.

The Blackcats passed with longtime rival Paintsville and Letcher County Central on Wednesday.

Prestonsburg is scheduled to travel to Raceland for the Rams’ annual passing tournament Friday and Saturday.

The Blackcats are slated to visit Russell for another two-day passing tournament July 22-23.

Prestonsburg concluded the 2015 season 5-6. After opening the 2015 season with a loss to Pikeville, Prestonsburg posted back-to-back wins over Sheldon Clark and Breathitt County. Prestonsburg, however, dropped two straight games to Hazard and Shelby Valley.

The second half of the Blackcats’ 2015 season included Class 2A, District 8 wins over East Ridge, Allen Central and Betsy Layne. Prestonsburg lost games to Leslie County and Lawrence County during the second half of the 2015 season, a campaign in which the Blackcats managed to outscore opponents 285-201.

The Blackcats’ 2015 season concluded following a loss to Lexington Christian in the opening round of the Class 2A State Playoffs.

Prestonsburg is scheduled to kick off the 2016 season on the road at Pikeville on Aug. 19. Pikeville is the reigning Class A state champion. Kickoff for the Prestonsburg-Pikeville football game is set for 7:30 p.m.
