HI HAT – The South Floyd High School football team opened preseason practice at Raider Field on Monday.
Second-year head coach Chad Hall is set to guide the Raiders in the 2016 season.
South Floyd is scheduled to attend camp at Morehead State University Friday-Sunday. The Raiders attended camp at MSU during Hall’s first season as head coach in 2015.
South Floyd finished the 2015 season 3-8. Williamsburg eliminated South Floyd from the 2015 Class 1A Class State Playoffs, pulling away to beat the Raiders 41-12 in an opening round game.
During the 2015 season, South Floyd posted wins over Betsy Layne, Jenkins and Phelps.
The Raiders dropped games to Harlan, Knott County Central, Allen Central, Pikeville, Twin Valley (Va.), Hazard and East Ridge during the 2015 season.
Opponents managed to outscore the Raiders 446-298 in 2015.
South Floyd is slated to kick off the 2016 season at Betsy Layne on Aug. 19. Following the season-opener against county foe Betsy Layne, South Floyd will venture to Harlan one week later, prior to entertaining Knott County Central in a season-opener on Sept. 9.
South Floyd has additional home games scheduled versus Beaver Creek rival Allen Central (Sept. 16), Pikeville (Sept. 23), Jenkins (Oct. 7) and East Ridge (Oct. 28).
The Raiders have other away games slated against Hazard (Oct. 14) and Phelps (Oct. 21).
Several experienced players are back for the South Floyd football team.
