PRESTONSBURG – Prestonsburg finished runner-up in a passing tournament held at Raceland on Friday. The Blackcats, under the direction of longtime head coach John DeRossett, competed in Raceland-hosted passing tournaments both Friday and Saturday.
Each passing tournament featured several teams from Kentucky and neighboring Ohio.
On Friday, Prestonsburg compiled a 5-2 record, finishing runner-up to Wheelersburg, Ohio.
Prestonsburg split four games at Raceland on Saturday, compiling a 2-2 record.
The Blackcats are scheduled to venture back to Northeastern Kentucky to compete at Russell High School on Friday.
Prestonsburg will host its annual media day at 6:30 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 7.
The Blackcats concluded the 2015 season 5-6. After opening the 2015 season with a loss to Pikeville, Prestonsburg posted back-to-back wins over Sheldon Clark and Breathitt County. Prestonsburg, however, dropped two straight games to Hazard and Shelby Valley.
During the second half of the 2015 season, Prestonsburg posted wins over East Ridge, Allen Central and Betsy Layne. Prestonsburg lost games to Leslie County and Lawrence County during the second half of the 2015 season, a campaign in which the Blackcats managed to outscore opponents 285-201.
The Blackcats’ 2015 season concluded following a loss to Lexington Christian in the opening round of the Class 2A State Playoffs.
Prestonsburg is scheduled to kick off the 2016 season on the road at Pikeville on Aug. 19 at 7:30 p.m.
