EASTERN – Allen Central’s 2016 football schedule is set. The Rebels will venture to Phelps for a season-opener then make another road trip before taking the field for a home debut.
Allen Central and Phelps will meet for a non-district clash that is shaping up to be a highly-anticipate season-opener.
Under the direction of veteran head coach Jeremy Hall, Allen Central will travel to Phelps to face the David Jones-coached Hornets in a season-opener on Aug. 19. A former University of Kentucky starter, Jones is preparing to guide Phelps in his first season as head coach. Jones was named head coach of the Hornets earlier in the year.
Following the season-opener, Allen Central will travel to West Liberty for a game versus Morgan County one week later on Sept. 9.
The Rebels will host Jenkins for a home opener on Sept. 9.
In addition to the games at Phelps and Morgan County, Allen Central will meet South Floyd (Sept. 16), Betsy Layne (Oct. 7) and Prestonsburg (Oct. 14) in away games.
The Rebels have additional home games slated versus East Ridge (Sept. 23), Leslie County (Sept. 30), Shelby Valley (Oct. 21) and Knott County Central (Oct. 28).
Allen Central, a member of Class 2A, District 8, ended the 2015 season 5-5. The Rebels failed to qualify for the 2015 Class 2A State Playoffs.
Allen Central notched wins over Phelps, Jenkins, South Floyd, Betsy Layne and Knott County Central during the 2015 season. The Rebels dropped Morgan County, East Ridge, Leslie County, Prestonsburg and Shelby Valley in 2015.
Allen Central managed to outscore opponents 286-233 during the 2015 season.
