District 7 captures state title

District 7 claimed the Kentucky Junior League Baseball state championship on Friday night.


The District 7 team received the Junior League Baseball state championship banner.


District 7 players and coaches celebrated winning the state championship.


PRESTONSBURG – Trenton Coleman delivered on the mound and his teammates provided a lift at the plate as District 7 blanked Richmond 11-0 in five innings to win the Kentucky Junior League Baseball state championship on Friday night.

After three scoreless innings, District 7 batter Matt Combs provided a two-run single to center field in the fourth inning of the state title game.

Productive District 7 added nine more runs to force the game to end early via the mercy rule in the fifth inning .

With the win, District 7 advances to the Junior League Baseball Central Region Tournament in Fort Wayne, Indiana on Saturday, August 6. District 7 will represent Kentucky in the Central Region Tournament.

Junior League Baseball teams from around the world are set to compete in regional tournaments.

The Central Region Tournament will consist of Kentucky, Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, North Dakota, Ohio and Wisconsin. Kentucky is slated to meet neighboring Ohio at in the opening round of the Central Region Tournament.
