LEXINGTON – The tradition-rich Allen Central volleyball program excelled throughout the Bluegrass State Games over the weekend. In the junior varsity tournament, Allen Central claimed gold. Allen Central’s varsity unit won silver.
The Allen Central junior varsity team defeated Dunbar in a championship match.
Allen Central’s varsity team beat Holy Cross in the semifinals before falling to longtime 16th Region powerhouse Raceland in the title tilt.
First-year head coach Darlene Moore is set to guide the Allen Central volleyball program in the 2016 season. Moore was pleased with her program’s performance in the Bluegrass State Games.
“It was a great showing for Allen Central in central Kentucky,” Moore exclaimed.
Volleyball matches in the Bluegrass State Games were held at multiple locations in Lexington.
Moore replaced legendary head coach Larry Maynard at the helm of the Allen Central volleyball program. The Rebels have won four consecutive 15th Region championships.
Allen Central is slated to host 15th Region rival Belfry for a season opener on Aug. 16. The Rebels are scheduled to entertain South Floyd for a 58th District/Floyd County Conference match on Aug. 23 before returning to Lexington for the Lafayette-hosted Bluegrass Invitational Volleyball Tournament.
Allen Central is paired up with Prestonsburg in the first round of this year’s 15th Region All “A” Classic at Betsy Layne on Aug. 31.
