RAVEN – Josh Huff, 16, won AKRA races on three separate weekends during the month of July. Huff is a junior at Allen Central High School in August.
On July 2, Huff traveled to J& M Raceway in Columbia to compete in the 2nd Annual Outhouse Classic. He qualified first out of 18 karts in the AKRA Lite class and also qualified third out of twenty-nine karts in AKRA Medium. He led all 30 laps to take home a $300 victory. Huff also led 20 laps of the AKRA Medium race before being passed. Then, on the last lap, the J7 kart piloted by Huff was going for the pass for the first place position but was spun out due to a lapped kart.
On to the second weekend of racing, Huff found himself traveling to Southern Gap Raceway in Grundy, Va to compete in the Summer Slam 250 on July 16. Huff drew fifth in the AKRA Lite class and seventh in AKRA Medium class. During the heat races, Huff finished third in the Lite class and won the Medium heat race. The win in the Medium heat was crucial for setting Huff up to to lead every lap of the AKRA Medium feature, which brought him a $250 victory. During the AKRA Lite race, Huff took a lead on the second lap en route to winning another feature.
On July 23, Huff Racing traveled to Monticello to Spring Water Kartway to race in the 2nd Annual David Koontz Memorial $500 to win kart race. Although this was Huff’s first time on this track, he set the fast times in both AKRA Medium and Heavy classes. The J7 kart went on to win both heats and each feature race to take home a total of $540.
