Five MSC teams ranked in NAIA Football Preseason Coaches’ Top 25 Poll

COLUMBIA – A quintet of Mid-South Conference teams are ranked in the NAIA Football Preseason Coaches’ Top 25 Poll, the national office announced on Monday.

Reinhardt (Ga.) is the highest ranked team from the MSC in the poll as they earned 202 points to place them 11th in the poll. The Eagles went 9-2 last season and finished second in the MSC West Division with a 4-1 record in the division. Reinhardt also made their first appearance in the NAIA Football Championship Series in 2015.

Lindsey Wilson is just behind Reinhardt in the poll at No. 12 with 177 total points. The Blue Raiders went 8-3 in 2015, while finishing third in the West with a 3-2 record. Lindsey Wilson made their second-straight appearance in the NAIA Football Championship Series last season.

Campbellsville – who captured the 2015 MSC West Division title going 5-0 in the division – is ranked 17th in the poll with 104 points. The Tigers went 8-3 last year and made the national tournament for the second-straight season.

Georgetown is the only team from the East Division ranked in the top 25 as they sit at No. 18 in the rankings. Georgetown garnered 102 total points after winning the MSC East Division in 2015 with record of 5-0 in the division. Georgetown posted an 8-3 record overall last season.

Faulkner (Ala.) was the final team from the Mid-South ranked in the poll as the earned 78 points, which slotted them 19th in the ranking. Faulkner finished their 2015 season with a record of 7-3 overall. Faulkner was fourth in the West with a 2-3 record against divisional opponents.

Defending national champion, Marian (Ind.), earned the No. 1 ranking the in the preseason poll with 314 points and all 14 first-place votes. Southern Oregon is ranked second in the poll with 302 points, followed by Morningside (Iowa) at No. 3 with 289 total points.

No. 4 St. Francis (Ind.) and No. 5 Baker (Kan.) concluded the top five with 276 points and 267 points, respectively.

The poll was voted upon by a panel of head coaches representing each of the conferences and Independents.

The first regular season poll is scheduled to be released on Monday, Sept. 12.
