PIKEVILLE – Second-year University of Pikeville softball head coach Christine Sheridan announced the signing of 17 student-athletes to an NAIA scholarship for the 2016 season on Tuesday.
The group of signees include 14 true freshmen and three transfers set to join a Bear team that went 20-19 overall and finished fourth in the Mid-South Conference Standings a season ago.
Three of UPIKE’s top six hitters from 2015 are set to return in infielder Breana Pineda (.288), infielder Hollie Hinkle (.269) and catcher Eady Beth Connally (.265). Lauren Barnes, who picked up five wins last season, is the leading returner in the circle.
